About Napoleon in Italy:
Napoleon accepted the crown of Italy March 17, 1805. As he did in Paris a few months earlier, Napoleon crowned himself exclaiming: "God has given me, beware that the". This exclamation will become the motto of the Order of the Iron Crown. The Emperor appointed his son-Prince Eugene de Beauharnais, Viceroy of Italy and leaves Milan June 10, 1805. The fate of Italy is now linked to that of France for nine years.

Beginning in January 1814, the defection of Murat and his alliance with the Austrians and with the British in order to keep his kingdom of Naples, Italy lost. Prince Eugene, despite a heroic defense, can not prevent the collapse of the kingdom after Mantua has fallen. April 6, 1814, Napoleon abdicated.
