1923 Germany 100,000 Mark Notes - Consecutive Pair - Reichsbanknote - 6-Digit Serial - 1923 One Hundred Thousand Marks Notes - P#83a.1

This listing is for the photographed Set of 2 1923 German 100,000 Mark Reichsbanknote with a 6-Digit and Consecutive Serial Numbers. These notes were issued in Berlin on February 1st, 1923. They have a smaller sized, 6-digit serial number compared to the larger 8-digit serial numbers used on other similar note issues. The obverse of this note shows a portrait of Georg Gisze on the left. This issue does not have a "T" printed at the left of the portrait, differentiating it from other issues. These notes consecutive serial numbers make them a highly sought after find! Extremely Fine (XF) grade/condition, minimal visible folds and signs of circulation, crisp notes! Excellent addition to any collection! P#83a.1 (Pick Number 83a.1).

The Papiermark was the German currency from 4 August 1914 when the link between the Goldmark and gold was abandoned, due to the outbreak of World War I. In particular, the Papiermarks was the currency issued during the hyperinflation in Germany of 1922 and 1923.

This note is an example of the hyperinflation causing the banknotes to list higher values, such as this one, at 5000 Marks.

Banknotes were issued by the Imperial Treasury (known as "Reichskassenschein") and the Reichsbank, as well as by the banks of some of the states. Imperial Treasury notes were issued in denominations of 5, 10, 20 and 50 Mark, whilst Reichsbank notes were produced in denominations of 20, 50, 100 and 1000 Mark.
