The Lincoln cent (sometimes called the Lincoln penny) has been struck by the United States Mint since 1909. The obverse or heads side was designed by Victor David Brenner, as was the original reverse, depicting two stalks of wheat (thus "wheat pennies", struck 1909–1958).

Hipólito Yrigoyen was the president of the country but he was quickly forced out of power by General Jóse Félix Uriburu as General Uriburu led his loyal troops to the capital and were met with very little opposition to the coup.
- Pluto is discovered during February of 1930. It was discovered by astronomer Clyde W. Tombaugh at the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona.
