This listing is for the U.S. Army Commemorative Veterans of Foreign Wars Medallion.  There is a social tradition where service members "challenge" others to produce their coin; those unable to show one may have to buy a round of drinks.  The tradition is often traced back to a World War I story where a pilot used a unit-insignia coin to prove his identity and avoid execution after being captured.
